Total Oil UK Case Study
| Client Name | Total Oil UK | ![]() |
| Challenge | Total is an innovative petrol retailer with 900 service stations that provide high-quality motoring fuels along with a wide range of convenience products. Each service store requires managers who have strong customer service skills, commercial and business acumen, retail experience, people management skills and the ability to work in a team. Due to the implementation of the new management programme, on-going expansion plans and general turnover, Total has an on-going need for recruiting store managers and deputy store managers. | Wishing to concentrate on strategic HR issues, Total made the decision to outsource the Management of the transactional recruitment process. |
| Solution | PPS provide an on-going outsourced recruitment service to manage the recruitment of Total’s store manager programme in its 900 service stations. All advertising uses Total employer branding. Web-mining has proved increasingly successful and supported PPS in building an extensive talent pool of relevant candidates. Killer questions are used to reduce time spent processing unsuitable applications and then those that pass the initial sift are given a comprehensive competency based telephone interview. The interview is tailored to enable PPS to identify candidates that are suitable ‘fit’ both culturally and in terms of their skills and experience; the competencies reflect exactly what is required of Total managers. Management information (MI) is sent to Total which provides details of live vacancies, offers made, time to hire details, candidate sources, application to offer conversion rates, and time and cost per hire. PPS developed a bespoke on-line application system to monitor, process and track all responses. The system ensures that all candidates receive relevant and consistent information at each key stage in the recruitment journey. |

Their hard work, attention to detail and passion for providing the most suitable candidates mark them out as one of the leaders in their field." |
