Loretta Snape

About: Loretta completed her industrial placement in June 2011. She is now heading back to university to conclude her degree.
University: University of Birmingham
Degree subject: Business Management (final year)
Quote: “For my placement year I worked within PPS’ permanent recruitment department. My role involved liaising with the companies clients to understand their recruitment needs. Placing adverts or directly sourcing candidates for these clients, screening and sifting through applioneions and completing numerous telephone interviews with candidates to find the right candidate for what the client needs.

The year has been very structured and allowed me to experience various elements of the department, such as working on continual permanent recruitment, graduate schemes and exit and retention.

The training, support and variety of work included in my industrial placement has not only allowed me to develop my knowledge and skills in the field I hope to go into after university, it has allowed me to develop skills that will help me in all areas of life. For example, I have become more confident when communioneing, more efficient when working and more comfortable approaching and overcoming challenges – all of which will come in handy when I return to university”

Dave Beesley

About: Dave joined PPS on industrial placement in 2007. Following graduating from Aston Business School, he is now a permanent member of the PPS team.
University: Aston University
Degree subject: BSc (Hons) Human Resource Management
Quote: "My journey with PPS began in 2007, as an Industrial Placement student studying BSc Human Resource Management at Aston Business School. As a Client Services Administrator, it was my responsibility to provide administrative and evaluative support to two of PPS’ key retail clients. My main responsibilities involved vacancy advertising, candidate assessment including CV & online applioneion sifting, telephone interviewing, and offering candidate feedback and support.

One of the real benefits of choosing PPS as a placement organisation was the supportive and autonomous environment provided. My role went far beyond its administrative title, and I was given the opportunity to work closely to clients in many aspects of recruitment. Not only did I support both on and off-site meetings and chair conference calls, but I was able to respond to client needs by designing and implementing e-recruitment updates. Many ad hoc projects like this, allowed me to develop a number of skills which I was able to apply on my return to Aston, and following graduation.

Many people asked me where I wanted to be following my time with PPS, and the answer was simple; back with PPS! Having graduated, I am an Account Manager, providing permanent and temporary recruitment support to a number of London’s largest Housing Associations. As you will find, it’s all about variety at PPS – we aim to give you the best insight to recruitment and all it has to offer.

We’re really looking forward to welcoming our next IPs to the PPS team - I’ll be on hand to support the successful candidates with their roles (and placement reports!) Good luck!"

Richard Walker

About: Richard completed his Industrial Placement in I.T with PPS in 2006/07.
University: Staffordshire University
Degree subject: BSc (Hons) Internet Technology
Quote: “In the short time of being here I have already gained loads of valuable experience and skills, in particular with security and authentioneion. I now also have a better appreciation for how recruitment companies and small sized IT teams work. I have already been given major responsibilities which have made me feel like a valued member of the team.

The placement has been structured so that I will be able to gain valuable insight and experience of the workings of the recruitment sector as a whole, but in particular in the IT area.

There are always plenty of opportunities to widen my knowledge in many areas of IT, and I have been given free reign to develop IT tools for various teams in the office that will assist them in their day to day tasks. PPS is a great company to work for. I have been treated as a permanent employee and so far received loads of guidance and support from everyone.

Later in the year, I participated more in the development, implementation and testing of new bespoke recruitment systems that will further streamline the current business flow.

In terms of first impressions; In my first few weeks, I was introduced to all of the team and then proceeded to go around and work with them all to find out what they did, everyone in the team is always willing to help and there’s loads of social outings and activities where I met lots of people throughout the company.”
